Our flock of around 150 ewes is at the heart of Bogside Farm. We keep a mixture of Herdwick and Lleyn ewes, chosen for their hardiness, good mothering instincts, and ability to thrive on pasture.
We cross these ewes with Texel tups to produce strong, well-shaped breeding females, and the best of these are then crossed again to a Beltex to produce high-quality lambs for the commercial market.
The flock is grass-fed and managed with a focus on welfare and natural growth. We lamb from mid-April onwards, aiming for low input system.
Most of our lambs are sold through local live markets, where we take pride in presenting well-grown, healthy animals raised entirely on our own grass.
We also produce a small number of lambs and Herdwick hogget for meat boxes delivered freshly from the butcher direct to the customer.
